Our Story

A room made for trying.

Petone had big-box tea brands and supermarket shelves, but nowhere to actually sit down with a pot and figure out what you liked. That gap is why Tea Atelier exists: part shop, part tasting room, part excuse to slow down for twenty minutes.

Every tea behind the counter can be brewed and tried on the spot, gong fu cha style, before it ever goes in your bag.

About Us

Stay a while

Bring a book. Bring your laptop.

The corner by the window isn't just for looking at. Come in after work to unwind with a pot to yourself, or post up for an hour with your laptop and a proper cup of tea instead of a coffee queue.

How to taste

Pick your pace.

Pull up a stool at the bar and choose from anything on the wall. However much time you've got, there's a way to taste that fits it.

01 Cuppa break

One brewed cup, your call on the leaf. A relaxed way to try something new

02 Tasting flight

Two or three teas, poured small, one flight per person, so you can compare before choosing a tin.

03 Gong fu cha

The traditional Chinese method, small pot, small cups, several short steeps of the same leaf. Your host will walk you through it, no experience needed.

Workshops & events

Come learn something new.

Guided tastings, discovery night and watercolour painting sessions, plus private bookings for groups who want the room to themselves.

Shop the wall

A tea collective, not just a shelf.

Every tin on the wall comes from a grower, blender or importer we picked on purpose. Ask us about any of them and we'll tell you exactly where it's from.
